In 1984 they began sculpting with resin, at first making a line of miniature houses called "The Gnomes Homes". Some of their more profitable reproductions included duck decoys. They turned to making and selling antique reproductions. They were owners of an antique shop in Boyds, MD, which although profitable, found difficulty maintaining an inventory of well priced antiques. The bottom of the figure shows the hand written number, and this one is a 1E (First Edition), and over to the side of that is the hand signed signature of Gary Lowenthal, the creator of the Boyds Bears and founder of the company. This hand painted resin figurine has so many details it is an amazing sculpture and design, requiring a lot of expertise. The large pig is wearing a holly berry wreath, and both angels have colorful wings. Here is a very rare Boyds Bearstone called "Christmas Big Pig, Little Pig", which features two pig angels the larger pig is holding a basket of gold stars and the small pig is holding a trumpet.
