But it was chaos.”Īll’s well that ends well, though, and the band eventually took to the stage in defiance all of the arguments and hallucinations: They played Tommy in full, as well as a few other popular early hits, cementing their place in music history in the process. A nice cup of hallucinogenic tea.” Troubled by constant power cuts, stage jumpers, and what might have been early symptoms of pneumonia on top of the psychoactive assault, Daltrey began to wish they hadn’t even agreed to the gig: “It was billed as an Aquarian exposition - three days of peace and music. Fortunately, I’d brought in my own bottle of Southern Comfort so I was fine right up until the moment I decided to have a cup of tea,” he wrote. An audience of half a million didn’t exactly help.Įven worse for Daltrey - who, while a dabbler in alcohol, abstained from drugs throughout his time in the band - there was no food backstage, and everything was laced with LSD. And waiting some more.” It was even harder on Who drummer Keith Moon - Daltrey said he always suffered from “terrible” nerves before performances, which, per Daltrey, always worsened the drinking habit that wound up killing him. “We were due on in the evening but by four the next morning we were still hanging around backstage in a muddy field waiting. “You hope things will be running like clockwork but at festivals in those days, particularly inaugural festivals, they never were and they certainly weren’t at Woodstock,” Daltrey continues. And we waited and waited and waited.”Īt around 7 p.m., the Who was finally beckoned to drive to the backstage area, only to sit on their asses for ten more hours. Everyone all just hanging around and waiting their turn to go to the site. “The destination we arrived at was a little different … the musicians had the rooms and the roadies and technicians slept in the corridors. The whole place was chaos,” Daltrey writes. Pete spent several hours in the traffic jams. “Three days of peace and love? Do me a favor. Mostly, it just involved a perpetual state of waiting, which didn’t do much for Daltrey’s anxiety issues. Kibblewhite, Woodstock may have been an undeniably seminal 20th-century event, but it wasn’t much fun for the bands that participated. But if you’re still suffering from a case of FOMO because you never got to drop a tab of acid and see Jimi Hendrix, Santana, and Creedence Clearwater Revival perform on a mud-soaked stage for hours on end, perhaps the Who’s Roger Daltrey might change your mind - because despite performing a headlining set at the festival with one of the most popular bands in the world, he still had a pretty shitty time.Īccording to Daltrey’s new memoir, Thanks a Lot Mr. The legend of Woodstock continues to bewitch music aficionados nearly a half-century after that fateful August 1969 weekend, even if its “peace and love” reputation has come under some scrutiny in the years that followed. Photo: Warner Bros/Kobal/REX/Shutterstock Seely was a great friend of Winston Churchill and the only former cabinet minister to go to the front in 1914 and still be there four years later. As General Jack Seely, he led one of the last great cavalry charges in history at the Battle of Moreuil Wood on his war horse Warrior in March 1918. He was Secretary of State for War for the two years prior to the First World War, before being forced to resign as a result of the Curragh Incident. He was a Conservative MP from 1900 to 1904 and a Liberal MP from 1904 to 1922 and from 1923 to 1924. Warrior - The Amazing Story Of A Real War Horse new 2011 edition illustrated by Sir Alfred Munnings, 176pp., condition: new jacket lightly marked and rubbed. Year it was published: 2011 (first published in 1934)Ībout the author: John Edward Bernard Seely, 1st Baron Mottistone, was a British Army general and politician. I highly recommend this book, regardless if you are interested in horses or not, it is a fascinating book. The end is so sad, not because Warrior died (at almost 33), but how it was affected by the Second World War. He led a cavalry charge in 1918 and showed determination and courage.īesides the wonderful story of the horse, it is interesting to see the book as a historical account of the period, to see how the General talks about the other soldiers, some from the colonies, how their lives, his and Warrior’s were different due to his rank. Warrior was in France for years and escaped death many times. The book tells the whole history of Warrior from his birth in an Isle of Wight field, to his amazing life as a famous war horse and how a combination of both. The story is wonderfully written and well worth reading, especially as it is a short book. I was so impressed with how much Seely loved his horses, firstly Cinderella, Warrior’s mother and then Warrior. The illustrations throughout the book were made by Sir Alfred Munnings who drew Warrior during the war and at home after the war ended. Seely was a friend of Winston Churchill and he served in the Parliament alongside him. Warrior by Jack Seely – The Amazing Story of a Real War Horse was first published in 1934 under the name My Horse Warrior and it is the story of Warrior, the charger of General Jack Seely. Action holds up very well and the graphics are amazing.Ĭons: Short and expensive. Pros: The quality of storytelling is second to none, with no over reliance on cut scenes and a great script. In Short: Another masterful mix of interactive story and brutal action, and which despite the short running time still packs an emotional punch. It’s another example of a developer at the top of their form, creating interactive stories that are by degrees more complex and human than any gaming has seen before. The game still manages to make its points though and in a mere two hour adventure tells a story with more emotional depth than almost any other game but its parent. Obviously both girls are meant to be old before their age because of the whole zombie apocalypse thing but a lot of the dialogue just doesn’t ring true, and is clearly the writer talking and not the characters. They play with water pistols and throw bricks at car windows but they also bicker like an old couple and the game lurches awkwardly from trying to prove how young and innocent they are in terms of their actions and then writing them like they’re the adult actors they clearly are (Riley’s voice actress in particular doesn’t sound a day younger than 30.) Unlike the main game Left Behind isn’t trying to make some grand point about love as a selfish emotion, it’s just trying to tell an affecting story about a little girl that doesn’t want to lose another person close to her.īut that actually is Left Behind’s one flaw: neither of the leads seems to in anyway act their age. All the locations are all new and, just as with the original, the effort and attention to detail is obvious at all times – from the snowflakes settling on Ellie’s hair to the amazing book of puns you can get her to read out loud for Riley.Īt first there seems little connection between Ellie’s flashback and Joel’s predicament (and diary entries from a crashed helicopter crew), but as you begin to realise where the story is leading the relevance become obvious. There’s nothing that really counts as new in terms of gameplay mechanics, but we’re loathe to call the game lazy. There’s a tense journey through a clicker-filled pet shop and a thrilling showdown with survivors at the end, which uses the idea of setting infected against enemy humans in a more effective way than the main game usually managed. The games flits back and forward between Ellie’s search for medical supplies and the flashbacks with Riley, with the former reusing the game’s stealth and action elements in some effective set pieces. The Last Of Us: Left Behind (PS3) – Ellie becomes quite the hunter-killer There will be no uneven softness on one side compared to the other. Feel this state evenly along with the full width of the bending strip. You will get a point while the material’s upward movement will be easy, as it gets a molten state. When you are evenly heating the bend line, gently put a press upon the material sheet you want to bend. Keep it away enough that the heat source cannot burn the wood jig. For even heat application, move your heat source evenly in moderate slow speed along the plastic line in front of the jig. Your heat application will be even along the line just in front of clamped jig’s straight edge. With the acrylic sheet clamped strongly to the heat-sensitive work surface under a straight end. Keep all the heat-sensitive flammable materials away from the working place, as it can be risky when you will apply heat. Bending a long end is far easier than a short end of plastic strips. Must use hand protection for handling this task. Try to leave an extended end of the plastic strip where it is easily possible to push up on it. In that case, use a ruler for perfect measurement. If the plastic is thicker, keep enough space to be more bend comfortably. Actually, you have to fix this distance based on the plastic thickness. Try to place it at least 1/4 inch in front of where you want to start your bend. Over the plastic, place a strip of wood scrap. Place the plastic on the heat-proof work surface. The measurement can be one inch or so in width. To apply this technique, use long thin test strips. Remove the covering from the material that you want to bend. DIY procedure to bend acrylic sheetįirstly, you need to set up the plastic or acrylic sheet accurately. For saving hands from burning, you can use oven gloves or welding gloves. Fix your working area away from inflammable materials that are well-ventilated. Note that, some colored Plexiglass sheets are heat withstanding and sometimes plastic. If you use a thicker acrylic sheet, you will have to be more careful in using it. Plexiglass or Acrylic Sheetįor this, you need the small pieces of acrylic sheet with thicknesses up to 1/8 inch. However, you can also use anything that can hold on the scrap strip wood like the bending jigs. In that case, quick release bar clips are preferable. Then finally, you need a heatproof work surface. Spacers can be in the same thickness or a little bit thinner compared to the plastic required to clamp for keeping strip wood jig even. Now you will need to arrange the perfect spacers. Consider it to be wide enough for the clamps. You can take something, which is at least 1/8 inch thick. Edges of the wood piece will be straight. Hairdryer is not perfect, because it cannot produce a certain level of heat) Scrap woodįor jig, you will need a piece of wood. Option 3: Heat Gun (Use especially for a large project. Option 2: Embossing Heat Tool (Usually the card makers or scrap bookers use this for melting and applying embossing powder) Option 1: Butane Torch (Small one that is perfect for kitchen works) You can pick your preferable one, which you can arrange easily. Some recommended simple tools could be best as a heat source. There you will need such a heating source that is perfectly fit for a small area.
